This project was our final project of the first semester in marine biology. We had a lot of freedom in this project, but still had guidelines. We got to be creative and create something in our own way. My partner and I decided to create a comic story about a climate hero, and we chose none other than Greta Thunberg. We chose her because she has recently gotten pretty popular around the globe these last couple of years because of her activism and thoughts on climate change; in addition, she is a teenager as well. She proves that you don't have to be a grown adult to help try to fix global issues. We created a story that was partly fiction but still had very real issues, we just put a little twist on it to create an ending.
You will find a picture of our story at the bottom of the page.
Content
Climate change: A change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change starting from the Industrial Revolution to now, and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels that are produced mainly because of human activities.
Solar energy: Radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range of technology such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar architecture, molten salt power plants and artificial photosynthesis.
Wind energy: The use of wind to provide mechanical power through wind turbines to turn electric generators, as well as to do other work, such as milling or pumping.
Wave energy: The capture of energy of wind waves by a wave energy converter to do useful work, such as generating electricity, desalinating water, and pumping water.
Mitigation: The action of reducing the severity, seriousness, or painfulness of something. In this case, climate change mitigation is to do actions to reduce the severity and seriousness of climate change.
Reflection
Personally, I did enjoy this project. I like when we do projects like these where we have more freedom and get to be more creative. My partner and I worked well together, we communicated our ideas and listened to each other's ideas well, and we didn't have any arguments. One of us didn't do more than the other, we split up the work evenly. One thing I wish we had done differently was be less mainstream when brainstorming different ideas. We had the opportunity to be much more creative than we were, I feel that many in the class did a similar project to ours. Although at the end, our project turned out pretty good.
